This page should answer most (and possibly even all) of the questions you have about AHC. If, after reading this, you have any other questions, please email us.

Why has my ad been deleted?
There is a semi-automated system in place that attempts to detect ads that have been submitted multiple times. If your ad is flagged as having been submitted multiple times, it will be deleted without warning. There is no reason to delete and resubmit your ad. If you want to change your ad's details, just log in and edit it.

Your ad may also be deleted if you fail to provide a correct scientific name and/or common name. Before submitting an ad, you need to search for the species you're advertising. All currently recognised Australian reptile species are in the database. If you choose to bypass this search step and go on to submit an ad with an incorrect name, your ad will probably be deleted.
If your ad is not for an animal, enter a brief category name in the Scientific name field. You can look at existing ads on this site to get an idea of appropriate categories. The most frequently used ones are:

  • Enclosure
  • Reptile equipment
  • Reptile food
  • Incubator

Your ad must conform to these rules:
- Correct scientific name
- Correct common name
- Only one species per ad
These requirements are here to ensure the quality of the ads on this site remains high.
If your ad has been deleted, do not simply resubmit the exact same ad. Figure out why it was deleted and correct it in your resubmission.

If you think your ad has been deleted unfairly, please contact me to sort it out. This system has been put in place due to a few people doing the wrong thing.

Why am I having trouble verifying myself as a seller?
If you are having problems verifying yourself as a seller, try this: If you're clicking the link contained in your verification email and getting an error, try copying and pasting the entire link into your web browser. That fixes most people's issues. You need to make sure that the entire link (and only the link) is being transferred to your web browser (e.g., the end is not being chopped off, there are no extra characters at the start/end).

Why can't I stay logged in?
This sometimes happens if your web browser cookies get confused. Trying logging out completely, then log back in again.

How do I contact a seller?
Please do not contact me (Stewart Macdonald) if you want to buy an animal. While I own and operate this site, I'm not the person advertising animals for sale here. A seller's details are listed with their ad. Click the seller's name to see their contact details.

Why are listings disabled after four weeks?
This is so the classifieds don't get clogged up with outdated listings of animals. If, after four weeks, your animal still hasn't been sold, you can log in and re-enable your ad.
To do this, log in to myAHC. On the page that displays a list of your ads, select the "Refresh" checkbox for each ad you'd like to re-enable. Then click the "Update" button, and Robert's your Mother's brother. You can only refresh ads that are older than four weeks - you can't refresh your ad daily to keep it at the top of the search results.

Why are some of my ads in myAHC red?
This means they are disabled because they are older than 4 weeks. Disabled ads WON'T show up in AHC searches. To find out how you can re-enable them, see above.

How do I change my details (like my phone number and password)?
Log in to the myAHC section of the site, and click the "Edit My Details" or "Edit My Password" link.

Can I have a picture with my ad?
Yes! You can now upload your own images in the myAHC section of the site. After you've logged in you will see a list of all your ads. On the far right-hand-side there's an upload link that will take you to the image upload screen.

I've sent you a pic, but it's not with my ad
That's not actually a question. You no longer need to email us your pictures. You can now upload your own images in the myAHC section of the site.

What are the Terms and Conditions of using AHC?
Use of the Australian Herpetological Classifieds, for Buyers, Browsers and Sellers, is governed by the following Terms and Conditions:

Terminology
The term "We", "Me" and "Us" refers to Stewart Macdonald, the guy who runs this site. The terms "You", "User" and "Users" refer to anyone that views a page on the ReptilesDownUnder.com site, or any site officially affiliated with us.
  • We will not sell, give, lend, lease or auction your details to anyone at any time, unless we are legally obliged to.
  • We accept no responsibility for the legality or otherwise of any advertisement placed.
  • Your state/territory may REQUIRE you to list your permit number when advertising reptiles (or other native fauna) for sale. If this applies to you, YOU MUST include your permit number in your seller details, otherwise you may be liable for prosecution by the relevant authority. Please check with the relevant fauna authority if you have any questions about this.
  • We reserve the unconditional right to edit any advertisement without advertiser's consent. Don't get narky at us when we do this, especially if we're fixing up your errors.
  • All adverts will be included in the Classifieds entirely at our discretion.
  • Adverts may be removed at any time, without warning, if we deem this action necessary.
  • You must not list animals that are illegal to sell in Australia and/or purchase in Australia, including (but not limited to) non-Australian native species and illegally wild caught animals. If we have reason to believe that you are listing animals illegally, we will turn your information over to the relevant fauna authorities.
  • Your IP address will be recorded when you sign up, every time you log in, and every time you submit an ad.
  • We take no responsibilty for the storage of your personal details (including your password) on our server. In other words, if you've signed up to this site using your net banking password, and your password is stolen from our server, we accept no responsibility for the consequences.

Use of these web pages is undertaken entirely at user's own risk. If you DO NOT agree to any or all of these conditions, you MUST NOT use the Australian Herpetological Classifieds.

How do I edit one of my ads?
Log in to the myAHC section of the site. You can edit a few of the ad's details in the list, or you can click the edit more link to edit any of its details.

I have a suggestion. Who do I talk to?
If it's a suggestion for AHC (or any section of ReptilesDownUnder.com) you can email us or use our Contact Form.

What other Australian "For Sale" sites are out there?
Here are a couple:

If you know of others, please let us know.

What sets AHC apart from the others?
As far as we can tell, AHC was the first (it started on the 16th of March, 2000) online For Sale site for reptiles and amphibians in Australia. It started as a simple, manually updated page, and has progressed over time to this snazzy database-driven site.

AHC Advantages
Here are some of the reasons we think AHC is the best For Sale site out there. Not all of these features are unique to AHC, but when combined they set AHC apart from the rest.
  • Ads appear immediately
  • You can edit your own ads
  • We can actually spell "ad"

Are all these questions really asked that frequently?
Errr, no. We needed some questions, so we just had a guess to figure out which questions we thought would be asked frequently.
Did we guess correctly? Are there other questions that you'd ask, given an appropriate opportunity?
If so, please email us to let us know.
Because these questions haven't actually been asked, we were going to call this section "Frequently Unasked Questions", but we decided against it.
